MON REGRET / Production

Stock

The stock will be a low gsm newsprint, representing the ‘tabloid’ size and nature of the publication and the connotations behind this. The thinness of the stock conveys the act of opening up through releasing personal information into the website, thus into the publication. Because of the amount of submissions, and in keeping the regrets to one per page on average, this will result in around 60 pages. The low GSM will balance out how thick the publication would be, whilst still keeping it substantial. The stock also corresponds with ‘binding method’

Binding

The publication will not be bound, rather just folded to again further push the idea of the publication being a ‘artistic newspaper’. The binding then isn’t solidified as a final structure, pages can be removed, altered and thrown away, referring back to the aim of the project to release regrets and bad feelings as a free movement, not rigid.

Printing

There is no need to use facilities such as screen printing or third party printers for this project as there is simply black type and CMYK imagery. Inkjet printing will be the most appropriate and cost effective choice, especially if this was to be reproduced for sale. From experience with other projects, using third party print services is very very costly for a student, and only needed to be used to achieve special inks or finishes (See brief 05).
